Route

Pending

The routes are written. They are not yet mapped.

This entry's cultural layer already names where it came from and how it moved. What it does not yet carry is that movement as structure: ordered waypoints with real coordinates, and a mechanism on each leg. Until it does, the layer stays an empty slot rather than a drawn line, because a map built from prose would be a guess with a projection under it.

Rite

Oranges are luck you can stack. At Lunar New Year they are piled in households and given in pairs across Chinese communities, because the words for orange and tangerine sound like wealth and luck, and gold-coloured fruit reads as gold. The pun is the mechanism, which means the custom only works in the language that produced it and travelled anyway. In Europe the same fruit was a Christmas rarity, put in a stocking because it came from somewhere warm and far.
