The routes are written. They are not yet mapped.

This entry's cultural layer already names where it came from and how it moved. What it does not yet carry is that movement as structure: ordered waypoints with real coordinates, and a mechanism on each leg. Until it does, the layer stays an empty slot rather than a drawn line, because a map built from prose would be a guess with a projection under it.

The turkey carries a national origin story that its own participants would tell differently. It anchors an American Thanksgiving built on a founding narrative that stops before the wars and dispossession that followed, and Wampanoag people observe a National Day of Mourning on the same date. The bird is Mesoamerican, domesticated long before contact, and reached Europe via Spanish ships before it returned as the emblem of a settler harvest. It is named turkey because Europe was confused about where it came from.
