Rite

In Slavic tradition the raspberry patch is a place of abundance and of danger, and malina in Russian became slang for a den of thieves, because a thicket is where things are hidden. The fruit was gathered wild by women and children and preserved for winter illness, and raspberry-leaf tea is given in late pregnancy across European folk practice. A thorny thicket that feeds you is a familiar shape in folklore.
