Route
PendingThe routes are written. They are not yet mapped.
This entry's cultural layer already names where it came from and how it moved. What it does not yet carry is that movement as structure: ordered waypoints with real coordinates, and a mechanism on each leg. Until it does, the layer stays an empty slot rather than a drawn line, because a map built from prose would be a guess with a projection under it.

Rite
The Dunmow Flitch is awarded to a married couple who can swear before a jury that they have not regretted the marriage for a year and a day, a custom recorded in Essex since the twelfth century and still held. The prize is a side of bacon, and Chaucer refers to it, which means the joke about marriage was already old in 1390. Pork was the affordable celebration meat, so the reward for a good marriage was the meat of an ordinary feast.
