Cultural layer

Origin
The eastern Mediterranean and South Asia; fenugreek used as both leaf and seed, the leaf cooked as a green and the seed toasted as a spice
Routes
One of the oldest cultivated plants in the region, found in Bronze Age sites; central to Indian cooking and to Ayurvedic and Unani practice as a galactagogue
Context
Methi is two ingredients from one plant and English collapses them: methi leaves are a vegetable cooked like spinach, methi seeds are a bitter spice used in tempering. Recipes that translate both as fenugreek send cooks to the wrong shelf. It is also given to nursing mothers across South Asia and the Middle East, which is a use no spice rack accounts for.

Route

Pending

The routes are written. They are not yet mapped.

This entry's cultural layer already names where it came from and how it moved. What it does not yet carry is that movement as structure: ordered waypoints with real coordinates, and a mechanism on each leg. Until it does, the layer stays an empty slot rather than a drawn line, because a map built from prose would be a guess with a projection under it.
