Cultural layer

Origin
Niger Delta (Ijaw, Urhobo, and Itsekiri peoples); the whole-fruit cream of the oil palm, distinct from refined palm oil, the pulp before extraction
Routes
Indigenous to the Gulf of Guinea rainforest belt, spread through internal West African trade, inseparable from Niger Delta diaspora cooking
Context
Banga soup is the soul food of the Niger Delta. The same palm tree that fueled centuries of colonial extraction also provides the base for the most sacred dishes of the peoples who live among it. Banga is what palm oil is before it becomes a commodity: the whole fruit, unrefined, carrying a flavor that disappears the moment industrial processing begins. This means that banga soup is not a variation of palm oil cooking. It is the original.

Route

Pending

The routes are written. They are not yet mapped.

This entry's cultural layer already names where it came from and how it moved. What it does not yet carry is that movement as structure: ordered waypoints with real coordinates, and a mechanism on each leg. Until it does, the layer stays an empty slot rather than a drawn line, because a map built from prose would be a guess with a projection under it.
